What Happened to the Shemitah?
It seems the Shemitah did not go quite as we thought. Does that mean that the signs were not important? It seems there are some out there ready to throw the baby out with the bath water already. There have been some people out there who have started hurling insults at Jonathan Cahn, calling him names like heretic. This is what we would expect from those who are unsaved, but from those who say they belong to Christ? I am disappointed in the mean spirited responses against Jonathan Cahn. Just because it didn't play out the way we thought doesn't mean he was wrong. It means he is human and doesn't have a crystal ball. If many of you had not seen the logic and patterns to the shemitah he spoke of, you would not have been watching his videos, buying his books and looking for a huge final outcome. I too, was watching.
In reference to the attacks on Jonathan Cahn, I would like to start off with, what does the Bible say about attacking God's anointed? I'm not saying Jonathan Cahn is anointed but I don't know that he isn't either.
Saul God's anointed, was given a task by God and he failed to follow through with all God had commanded. Saul also, resented David and sought to kill him. David had a chance to kill Saul and refrained, David knew he did not have the right to kill God's anointed even though, Saul had failed to do as God asked, and even though Saul sought to kill David. I also find it interesting that it was Saul's son Jonathan who was very loyal to David. We also know that David God's anointed who had shown great wisdom and discernment, would later on have his own failures.
So be wise in not jumping to slander those who have been used of God. The list of those used by God who fell from Grace is long, but their names are forever preserved in the word of God.
Back to issue of the final Shemitah outcome....
Those patterns were and are real, provable and they exist. God did not all of a sudden forget. He isn't up in heaven laughing and rolling all over the place, because we all fell for some colossal joke. He didn't oversleep, shrug it off or change His mind.
I believe the Bible has all of the answers and all of the clues. We must always look to scripture when something like this plays out differently than expected and see if we have missed something.
This is how it's done.
Where in scripture do we see a pattern repeated, with the final episode being different than the all the rest?
I can think of one example right now. Jericho.

I can think of one example right now. Jericho.
6 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. 2 And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. 3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. 4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. 5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
Imagine you are one of those who is marching with Joshua around Jericho. Every day for six days you do the same thing as the day before. Day seven comes and you assume you will do as you have done the other 6 days. Makes sense right? Seems to follow the pattern. Seven is a heavenly number. Seems a reasonable guess. Right?
But then................Joshua gives the final instructions and they are similar but different. On this day we will still march around the city, but we will go around the city 7 times and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
Good thing Joshua wasn't surrounded by today's eager to bash society. They probably would have stoned him.
Can we think of another example where something was done repeatedly and then was changed for the climatic end event?
How about Passover? For centuries since the time of Moses, God commanded the Israelites to sacrifice an unblemished lamb, put blood over the door posts, etc. Then came the day that God delivered the Passover of Passovers. The sacrifice to end all sacrifices. This one was SIMILAR YET DIFFERENT. Christ himself would fulfill the pattern and be the sacrificial lamb of atonement.
So don't be so quick to write off the pattern of the Shemitah or the work of our brother in Christ Jonathan Cahn. So he, like those marching around Jericho thought the seventh day would be the same as the last. Big deal, when was the last time you were right about EVERYTHING?
What about the 6 days of creation? For six days God created/worked, on the seventh He rested.
I am not saying these examples are the end all be all answers as to why the shemitah did not play out as thought, but I am saying the pattern has to be taken a step further. Look for patterns in scripture that had a climatic, different end result.
Oh and by the way Jericho is a fitting example. I believe America is the last great Empire spoken of in the dream of Nebuchadnezzar by Daniel the prophet. So in my personal, opinion the Elul 29 Dow drops were economic judgements and warnings, but the final blow is gearing up to bring down the walls. From which there will be no recovery. In Jericho the walls came down, but the harlot was spared, this time the walls will come down but the harlot will not be spared. Pray for America, let us not be so eager to see the pattern play out, just to confirm our hunches and guesses about these last days.
If you disagree with anything I have said, meet the Lord in prayer and ask Him why the final shemitah was not like the others. I believe it's by design and we shall soon reap the full force of the pattern God has set before us. Spend your time praying for lost loved ones, seeking God while He may be found, and searching the scriptures for the answers you seek. Throwing stones won't change the course of what is to come.
The name Jonathan means God has given, Cahn means a small boat. Like the disciples in the boat we are being tossed to and fro by a world that is contrary to us, but God has given us a small boat and the blessed hope of the day when will see Him and He will finally call us, like Peter, out of the boat and into His presence forever.
Even so, Come Lord Jesus.
